Sunday
the 16th August saw the largest gathering of Marcos cars ever assembled, the
culmination of 18 months work and the main event of the Anniversary weekend. The
celebration was held at the Prescott Hill Climb Circuit home of the Bugatti
Owner's Club.
The
paddock was laid out in such a way as to display the evolution of the car
from 1959 to 2007, ranging from a 1963 Gullwing to a 2007 TSO with over
250 cars on display.

A
vast array of road cars and race cars participated in untimed hill runs
throughout the day, with over 450 runs being executed, and no mishaps on
the hill!
The
star of the show was undoubtedly the Marcos Mantis XP, built in 1968 as a
group six sports racing car, this is the only one of its kind and was
flown in from California by the Morris family especially for the event,
with the help of Marcos Heritage and donations from Marcos owners and
enthusiasts.
The
XP generated an enormous amount of interest, especially when it powered up
the hill bringing back many nostalgic memories for its makers, enthusiasts
and hundreds of onlookers alike.

The
end of the day came to a finale with a huge cavalcade of cars from all
eras, led by the Mantis XP.
With special thanks to Mike Smith, Sean Ayton
and all of the Marshals - for keeping the paddock under control and
ensuring a smooth delivery of hill runs. To Ned, Chris and Roberta Morris
for bring the XP over for the event. To Isobel Chivers and Emily MacMath
for manning the Hill Hut all day. To Nick Upton for providing such a
brilliant commentary throughout the day. To Ian Patton and the Bugatti
Owner's Club for their help and such a wonderful venue. To all three
Marcos clubs for their input into the weekend. To all of the owners and
enthusiasts who donated funds to help ship the Mantis XP. And last but not
least everybody who participated throughout the weekend and helped us to
celebrate 50 years of Marcos. |
